Job Description :
As a Protection and Controls Engineer in the BBA Vancouver office, you will contribute to executing projects in conceptual, design, construction, commissioning and operational phases for our clients in the Energy, Industrial and Mining sectors. The responsibilities of this role include performing the following activities to the highest quality:

• Work collaboratively with clients, project managers, engineers, designers and drafters in the preparing deliverables to BBA and client standards;
• Prepare and review engineering design packages including studies, reports, functional descriptions, datasheets, calculations, single line diagrams, three line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, layouts, network diagrams, bill of materials, and cable schedules.
• Programming protection relays, data concentrators, automation controllers, PLCs, DCS and HMIs;
• Perform site inspections, testing and commissioning at client sites, locally and abroad;
• Coach, mentor and supervise junior engineers;
• Lead and manage work packages including preparing and monitoring budgets and schedules, and progress;
• Prepare proposals including scoping, cost estimate and schedule.

In addition to the technical responsibilities of this position, we are looking for individuals who have experience and interest in project leadership responsibilities such as project discipline leads, project engineers and project managers. At BBA, we expect project leaders to take on technical tasks in projects as well as the project management tasks to ensure our project leaders understand the details of the work being carried out.

Requirements :
For this position, we are looking for candidates with the following experience:
• Electrical Engineering Degree, or similar;
• Minimum 6 years of relevant experience;
• Registered or eligible to register with EGBC as a P.Eng;
• A valid class 5 BC driver’s licence;
• Excellent communication skills with high competency in English (both spoken and written);
• Ability to travel on short notice to customer sites and other BBA offices;
• Practical experience with designing, testing and commissioning protection and control systems for generation, T&D, and industrial facilities;
• Practical experience with generator auxiliary systems such as AVR/exciters, governors, unit controls and balance of plant equipment;
• Experience preparing and reviewing design deliverables such as single line diagrams, three line diagram, schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, and cable schedules, etc.;
• Experience preparing and reviewing technical specifications;
• Experience leading work packages.

The following experience will be valued, but is not necessary:
• Experience with communication protocols such as DNP, Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP, IEC 61850;
• Experience with electrical studies such as protection coordination, load flow, arc flash, etc;
• Experience with SCADA and telecommunication systems;
• Knowledge of system installation;
• Experience with generators and substations for utilities, independent power producers, and industrial facilities;
• Experience preparing capital cost estimates.
