Job Description :
As an Automation Technician, you will collaborate with project teams on instrumentation, automation, protection & control, and telecommunication projects in industrial, mining and utility sectors. You will participate in various project execution stages including project scoping, detail engineering, equipment specifications, site inspections, commissioning and operational support. Based on your profile and interests, you may be called upon to perform the following tasks:

• Perform detailed design of block diagrams, loop diagrams, wiring diagrams, control network, equipment layouts, material take-offs and lists, etc.;
• Prepare automation and electrical CAD drawings to BBA and client standards;
• Perform device configuration and programming;
• Perform site investigations;
• Prepare technical documents, calculation notes, datasheets, specifications, test sheets, etc.
• Take part in testing and commissioning equipment at client sites, locally and abroad;
• Apply established working methods and make sure they are improved upon.
• Communicate with internal and external stakeholders

Requirements :
For this position, we are looking for candidates with the following experience:

• Diploma in Electrical Technology – Automation option (able to be registered or currently registered with ASTTBC)
• 1 to 4 years of relevant project experience;
• Knowledge of automation drawings: P&IDs, loop diagrams, communication diagrams, AC & DC schematics, wiring diagrams, cable and termination schedules, etc.;
• A valid class 5 BC driver’s licence;
• Excellent communication skills with high competency in English (both spoken and written);
• Ability to travel on short notice to customer sites and other BBA offices;
• Knowledge of PLCs, DCS, HMIs, VFDs, MCCs and instrumentation;
• Experience preparing drawings using AutoCAD or MicroStation;
• Good knowledge of MS Office and other database applications
• Familiarity with CEC

The following experience will be valued, but is not necessary:

• Experience with projects in the mining or industrial sectors;
• Experience in troubleshooting, commissioning and system installation;
• Interest in electrical generation systems and substation automation and telecommunication systems;
• Knowledge of industrial IT and control/telecommunications architecture principles and applications
• Knowledge of protection and control principles and applications
